Our Needs
At
our Seminary in Zambia, even the trip to the seminary is a sacrifice.
Young men come with only one shirt, a worn pair of shoes, and no
funds for books or transportation. The Province assists by providing
books and personal items for the seminarians and by maintaining
two vehicles for transporting them to pastoral work, recreational
events and medical services. The Province also has many other expenses
related to our personnel in Zambia.
At St. Charles Villa, our retirement home, Father
Harry Dukehart is celebrating 60 years since his ordination and
service as a chaplain at Veterans hospitals and as a teacher
at our seminaries. Father Harry is one of 21 retired Sulpician priests
for whom the Society provides retirement benefits, including room
and board. The cost for those few who need nursing care is well
over $50,000 per year.
One
of our youngest members, born in Vietnam, is finishing studies in
Belgium this year. Though he lives simply, the costs of tuition,
books, and lodging come to $30,000 per year. Fr. Kim is one of six
younger Sulpicians finishing their advanced degrees so that they
can better serve in our seminaries.
These are just some of the reasons Sulpicians
need your help.
