What do you need to be a Sulpician?
To
be a Sulpician is to participate in the intriguing mission of priests
serving priests and future priests. It requires a mosaic of experience
and skills including intellectual curiosity, emotional and
human empathy, and spiritual depth.
To become a Sulpician is to join a fellowship of support and service.
Specifically, it means:
Pastoral Experience. We expect our candidates
to have at least two years of parish experience in order to bring
some practical wisdom to priests and future priests.
Love
of the priesthood. We look for men who love being priests
and who want to serve the Church and assist the bishops by serving
seminarians and other diocesan priests.
Teamwork. We seek members who can work in a
community setting, using a collegial style, and who can truly collaborate
with both ordained and lay persons in a common mission.
Faith. Our members constantly challenge themselves
and each other to be prayerful, to communicate their faith, ideals,
and enthusiasm for Jesus and the gospel, the Church and the priesthood.
Apostolic
Spirit. A missionary dimension to your identity as a priest
is an important quality for a future member of our society. We hope
to find in our applicants a commitment to social justice and a sense
of the world Church.
Gifts. Because of our special
mission, we need priests with above-average potential for professional
training as spiritual directors, teachers especially in the
fields of theology and philosophy, administrators, and/or
pastoral supervisors.
Willingness to learn. Sulpicians are always
"on." Were aware of our need for ongoing professional
development and the value of new learning, especially regarding
how to do priestly formation in the
Sulpician tradition.
