Continuing Formation

“Stir into flame the gift of God.”  2 Timothy 1:6

While the Sulpician Fathers may be known best for operating seminaries, Sulpicians have always been involved in the ongoing formation of priests as well. By serving as spiritual directors for priests, directing priests’ retreats, facilitating convocations, and giving workshops for priests, the Sulpicians continue to carry out the important work of encouraging, supporting and reinvigorating established priests to enable them to best carry out their respective ministries.

In recent decades, there have been significant efforts in all three Sulpician provinces to provide a more organized and systematic approach to this aspect of our ministry. Today, the U.S. Province is involved in four continuing formation programs, including:

As part of a more strategic approach to continuing formation, in the late 1990s the Society of St. Sulpice, U.S. Province, assisted St. Mary’s Seminary and University in constructing, staffing, and developing a new Center for Continuing Formation.

Since then, the Center has become a premier destination for the ongoing support, formation, and education of those in all stages of their priestly ministries.
